COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 96-210
December 3 l, 1996
• TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and
City Council Members
FROM: James L. Williams, Jr., City Manager
Debora L. Bean, Acting Community Development Director .
Robert A. McQueen, Senior Planner (
SUB7ECT: Annexation of premises commonly known as 314 Hillshire Road
A valid petition requesting annexation of the subject premises has been filed with the City Clerk's
Office. Containing 1.2 acres, the area in question is developed with a single family dwelling. The
reason for requesting annexation is to obtain City water to serve the existing dwelling.
The following data is relative to the proposed annexation:
1. An esting watermain is adjacent to the premises along South Franklin Street
Road; service is readily available.
2. Sanitary sewer service is not available; the existing dwelling is served by an
individual septic tank system. The nearest sanitary sewer is located
appromately 300 feet west of the subject tract in the Crestwood Subdivision.
3. South Franklin Street Road adjacent to the area in question is presently within the
corporate limits.
4. Additional annual revenue of approximately $300.00 would become available
from the combined total of real estate, motor fuel, and state income taxes.
Staff recognizes the proposed annexation as producing a logical extension of the corporate
boundary. We note that property to the immediate west across South Franklin Street Road is
within the City of Decatur as is property to the immediate north; we anticipate future requests to
annex additional residential property to the east along Hillshire Road. Staff recommends approval
of the petition as presented.
