v
CONIMCTNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 186
November 13, 1996
TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and
City Council Members ',
FROM: James L. Williams, Jr., City Manager
George C. Weaver, Community Development Director G ,
Robert A. McQueen, Senior Planner ('^"` U I
SUBJECT: Alley Vacation South of 919-947 West Eldorado Street I
A valid request has been received from property owners adjoining the subject alley to vacate the
same. Inasmuch as the alley in question serves only the adjoining property, and that an extension
of this alley to the immediate east and ending at the Norfolk and Southern Railroad has previously
been vacated, staiis of the opinion that said alley is no longer necessary to serve the general
public and that best interests of the City of Decatur would be served by approving the vacation
II request.
A perpetual easement would be retained for operation and maintenance of existing utility lines.
Further an appraisal in the amount of$1500.00 has been submitted to deternune fair market value
and compensation to the City of Decatur.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed alley vacation as submitted.
