 t
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 187
November 13, 1996
TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and
City Council Members
FROM: James L. Williams, Jr., City Manager
George C. Weaver, Community Development Director ,
Robert A. McQueen, Senior Planner 1
SUBJECT: Street and Alley Vacation, 1000 East Olive Street
A valid petition has been received from Decatur Foundry, Inc., to vacate that portion of East
Olive Street extending immediately west of Illinois Street, and to also vacate portions of ecisting '
alleys extending north and south from said street. The petitioner owns all property adjoining the '
street and alleys requested for vacation; these public ways do not appear necessary to serve the I
general public, and staff is of the opinion that the best interests of the City of Decatur would be '
served by vacating the same. A perpetual easement would be retained to operate and maintain
existing utility lines located within the subject areas.
In accordance with applicable City policy, two appraisals were obtained to establish fair market
value and compensation to the City of Decatur for the land in question. The average of these
appraisals resulted in a value of$3475.00.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed street and alley vacation as presented.
