Couter, Corporation Counsel
RE: Deputy City Clerk _--
The Illinois Municipal Code, at 65 II,CS 5/3.1-30.10, pernuts cities to authorize city clerks to
appoint deputies. By home rule, Decatur can authorize the appointment of more than one deputy. It is
advisable to have such deputies for those times when the city clerk is absent, so that documents may be
attested, process served, etc. The proposed amendment to the City Code submitted herewith would
permit the Decatur City Clerk to make such appointments as needed without the necessity for further
Council action.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed amendment.
JWC:ps
cc: Wendy L.
