Howley and <br /> City Council Members <br /> FROM: Daniel R. Sommerfeldt, Acting City Manager <br /> George C. Weaver, Community Development Director . <br /> Robert A McQueen, Senior Planner <br /> SUBJECT: Vacation of North Union Street between Kenwood Avenue and McKinley <br /> Avenue, and vacation of North Edward Street north of Hay Street <br /> Request has been received from Decatur Memorial Hospital to vacate the above referenced <br /> streets; the Hospital presently owns all property along either side of both streets in question. <br /> The proposed street vacations have been reviewed and recommended for approval by the Decatur <br /> City Plan Commission, and the closure of North Union Street as described has been reviewed and <br /> recommended for approval by the Decatur Tra,f�ic and Parking Commission. Also, said portion of <br /> North Union Street has been temporarily closed during the past several months, and no traffic <br /> problems have been encountered. <br /> An appraisal in the amount of$28,200.00 has been submitted as the fair market value of the area <br /> in question. Further, a second opinion has been obtained confirming this estimated value. <br /> A perpetual easement will be retained for operation and maintenance of e�sting utility lines within <br /> the subject streets. <br /> Staff recommends approval of the proposed street vacations. <br />
