Special credit is due
Miss Anna Belle leyer, who contributed many hours of secre- .
tarial service and Bil I.arrick, Decatur Public Lbrary staff ;
artist,who did tlie cover desin.
For the convenience of persons interested in seeing the
structures, the book lias been arraned in four sections with
the buildings in each listed in a sequence that can be readily j
followed in a walkin;or drivin tour. '
In addition to forty-nine historic structure biographies,
there are pictures of Decatur's four statues of Abraham lincoln,
one at the beginning of eaclt of the four sections. Three of the ;
four statues show Lincoln in poses characteristic of him at the
time he lived in or frequented our city and county.
It is tle sincere hope of tliose involved in this project
that it shouid be considered just a beginnin; and that other
interested groups or individuals will continue the exploration
of Decatur's past. Tliere are still many worthy structures to
be described and many fascinating stories to be told.
i
r

it
,.
:#
i
S
Y
'

I1
._

i
J
