Bacon, 7r., City Manager
George C. Weaver, Community Development Director
Bill Turner, Building Inspection Services Supervisor
REF: Changes to City of Decatur Code:
Chapter 25 -Electrical Commission, Electrical Contractors and Licensed
Electricians
Chapter 69 -Electrical Code
Chapter 70 -Property Maintenance Code
Chapter 25
The Electrical Commission has suggested the Code address the homeowner who wants to do his
own electrical work. The proposed change in Chapter 25 would require the home
owner/occupant to do work on his own premises if they could pass a simple test asking some
requirements of the Code and simple wiring. The test would be about ten questions and related to
the work they intend to do. We have found most homeowners do not know anything about the
Code or the installation of electrical components. It often requires numerous inspections to finally
approve a job. (Section 3.C.2)
Chapter 69
Chapter 69 has job and Division titles changed to reference present titles. (Sections 10 B (1) (c),
10 B (2) (a), 11, 12)
Chapter 70
Chapter 70 was passed on March 7, 1994. After passage, it was found there were some
numbering mistakes in the adopted ordinance. There are no changes in the text of this Chapter
except to change the designation of the sections. (Sections f, g, h, i, k-1, ee, ff, gg, hh)
