Budget Narrative
The City of Decatur has a continuous commitment to fund the Leaf Raking
Project for youth. This specifically pays for youth groups to rake the yards of
seniors and persons with disabilities. The KIB funds will be utilized for additional
litter reduction and beautification youth contracts.
The City of Decatur has granted Decatur Community Partnership dollars
for an Environmental Project Director. This director will be in charge of this
youth/senior program. The KIB funds will assist him in providing additional
hours to administer this program.
Promotion of the project and educational literature will be funded with
Turning Point, a national community health initiative that has granted
approximately twenty counties in the United States the opportunity to
work on environmental issues. The KIB funds will leverage the Turning
Point dollars directed toward this project.
Turning Point dollars will also match the new driver's education program.
Mileage and educational materials, with specific on-site inspection of
litter reduction potential will be purchased with the KIB and matching funds.
The contracts for litter reduction, recycling efforts, beautification maintenance,
plantings, will be matched with Turning Point dollars.
Air/Water quality discussions throughout the county with youth and seniors
wifl be funded with these dollars. Matching funding will come from a Kellogg
Foundation grant, Youth Engagement Strategy. This grant is to develop
leadership in diverse populations with youth and adults. Our county has
identified environmental issues as the topic on which the youth will work.
This is a national study. The Rockefeller Foundation will also evaluate
the process.
' , ,
Signed: ` Date: /l -/ `
Director of Decatur Community Partnership which administers
the Turning Point grant, the Environmental Project dollars, and
the Youth Engagement Strategy grant (YES).
