Council Memorandum
#00-18
September 14, 2000
TO: Honorable Mayor Howley
City Council Members
FROM: Steve G , ' Manager
RE: Airline Service
An ad-hoc Task Force has been created to deal with the issue of Airline Service in
Decatur. This problem is of growing significance and has become a community wide priority. It
is important to understand the segregation of airline service from the airport. While related on
some levels, the two issues are primarily separate problems.
The Chamber of Commerce has three representatives on the committee, (Kevin Breheny,
Julie Moore, and Corky Nicholson), the EDC has two representatives, (Mike Gulledge and Dick
Eggers), ADM has two representatives, (Bernie Kraft and Karla Miller), the Park District has
three representatives, (Bill Clevenger, Jack Kenney, and Gene Marcinkowski), and the City has
two representatives (Mayor Howley and this writer).
The group has interviewed one consultant, and may interview more, if it can be done
within the week. In any event, it is important to move on this as soon as possible.
It is anticipated that the City will pay 50%of the cost of a consultant, up to a maximum
of$25,000, and the Park District will be responsible for the other half.
Air service is critical to Decatur. The several world class corporations that have homes in
Decatur deserve the best efforts of the community to help them resolve problems and meet their
needs.
It is recommended that the City Council pass the attached resolution.
