i •
DECATUR FIRE DEPARTMENT
Memorandum
00-08
Date: August 16, 2000
To: Honorable Mayor Howley
City Council Members
From: Steve Garma ity Manager
Leslie Albe , ire Chief c
Re: Joint Agree ent With Richland Community College for the
Installation of a Burn Trainer(Building) at Fire Station#2
The purpose of this memorandum is to secure council approval to enter into an agreement
with Richland College to build a burn trainer building at Fire Station#2, located at 2707 E.
William St. Richland College has a grant to build this building and would like to build it at our
facility. This would enhance our Training Academy and abilities. The cost of this construction
would be covered by Richland College. The City of Decatur will not incur any construction
costs. Decatur Fire Department personnel would manage the building through the coordination
of Richland College Fire Science Program. This building will enhance the Richland College Fire
Science Program and assist us with a higher quality of training. The building is manufactured to
burn combustible solids such as wood and straw to make the training more realistic. We do not
have these capabilities at our training facility.
