Amoco is undertaking a remediation effort as a corrective action as the result of
a leaking underground storage tank(s). The estimated impacted area is shown on the attached
drawing.
Amoco has been coordinating this work with the Illinois Environmental Protection
Agency (IEPA). Amoco is wanting to obtain a "No Further Remediation Letter" for their
property from the IEPA. The IEPA advised Amoco that an acceptable and recommended means
to comply with the Site Remediation Program is to obtain institutional control of those properties
impacted by the subsurface contaminants and not in Amoco's ownership. The institutional
control is in the form of a deed restriction that will prohibit the City from allowing the
groundwater under the identified axea to be used as a potable or other domestic supply of water
and will limit access into the soil by means of excavations. The area that Amoco is asking the
City to place such a restriction on is basically the west half of the North Monroe Street
right-of-way fronting Amoco's property(refer to attached exhibit).
