In conjunction
with this expansion, it may be appropriate for the Cityto make other minor changes in this
twelve year old building in order to improve the efficiency, security and customer service at this
building. A small expansion of the water quality testing laboratory is also anticipated. The
overall objective is to make a11 office-type modifications that can be anticipated for the next ten
years. The office expansion is needed as soon as possible in order to implement the
reorganization plan.
Since the expansion will probably involve some modification of the existing building, the
City staff first contacted the original building designers, Black and Veatch Corp. Black and
Veatch is interested in doing the design for the building expansion and they have a very qualified
architect available to work on the project immediately. This would help expedite timely
completion of the project.
Based on preliminary discussions, City staff and Black and Veatch believe that the best way
to approach the design of this project is to use two phases: preliminary design and final design.
As described in the attached scope of work, the preliminary design will define the final
scope of the project and provide estimates of probable construction costs. Another contract will
be presented for final design at a later date.
