It was
decided by City staff that the most timely method would be to have the work done as a change
order to the City's contract, CP9801, with Bodine Services, Inc. for the water main extension ,
program. This contract contains the unit price for the major work item to install the new water I
main. '
City staff has discussed this change order with Bodine and they are agreeable to doing this
additional work. This will enable the installation of the water main to be expedited. If the work ,
is advertised for bids, it is estimated that the earliest the work could begin is the first or second
week of July. The work is estimated to take 3 to 5 weeks subject to weather or other unexpected
delays.
The cost of installing the new water main and related work is estimated to be $86,500.
Bodine has agreed to use 12-inch ductile pipe stored at the City's Municipal Services Center on
this project. This stored pipe could not be used in the Wyckles Road water main extension
because of underground electrical currents that would damage the pipe. The use of this pipe will
reduce the amount billed to the City by Bodine.
Funding for this water main will come from the Water Capital Fund.
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve a change order to the City's
contract for the Water Main Extension Program, City Project 9801 with Bodine Services, Inc. in
an amount not to exceed of$86,500.00 for the North Main Street Water Main Extension and that
the Mayor be authorized to execute the change order and the City Clerk to attest..
City staff will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer questions that the
Council members may have about this matter.
attach: 2
cc: John Couter, Corporation Counsel
Phillip Wilhelm, Municipal Services Manager
William Ratekin, Asst.
