ANDERSON PLAZA DECATUR, IL O S 6
'(l I N O`'
May 10, 2000
TO: Honorable Mayor Terry M. Howley and City Council Members
FROM: Steve Garm ity Manager
Cecil A. Co in , Jr., Assistant City Manager for I ergovernmental Programs
Paul McChanc , Mass Transit Administrator;
RE: Purchase of Service Vehicles for the Public Transit System
If approved, the attached resolution would authorize the purchase of one 2000 Ford Taurus from
Northtown Ford. On April 1, 2000, the Decatur Public Transit System advertised for sealed bids
for furnishing the City with the following vehicles:
• one midsize passenger sedan
• one full-size passenger van
• one pickup truck with snow plow
A notice was placed in the Herald & Review and notices were mailed to 39 area car dealerships.
Two bid packages were received by the appointed time for bid opening on May 1 st. Bids were
received from Miles Chevrolet and Northtown Ford. Both bids were acceptable, with respect to
the vehicle specifications, and both bids met all of the other requirements of the bidding process.
The following table shows the bids of each company:
BIDDER SEDAN VAN PICKUP TRUCK
Miles Chevrolet $18,989.16 No Bid No Bid
2000 Chevrolet Impala
Northtown Ford $15,459.00 No Bid No Bid
2000 Ford Taurus
In a telephone conversation with a representative from Northtown Ford, he explained that his
company would be unable to bid on the van and the pickup truck at this time, because Fard was
no longer building the 2000 models of these vehicles. He recommended that these vehicles be
rebid in the summer, when orders are being taken for the 2001 models.
Staff recommends that the bid of Northtown Ford be accepted for one 2000 Ford Taurus. Staff
will be available to answer any questions.
Pride of ihe Prairie
