A Letter of Intent between the City and the Illinois <br /> Department of Transportation was approved by the Council on March 20th, 2000. The <br /> Department of Transportation intends to contribute up to $652,000 toward the completion of this <br /> project. IDOT will pay for all work on Route 51 with the City paying for all work along Ash <br /> Avenue. The goal of this project is to improve safety and increase capacity at the intersection <br /> and along Ash Avenue. <br /> The project plans and specifications were prepared by the Traffic Engineer and the <br /> Engineering Division. The project was advertised April 12, 2000, and bids were opened on May <br /> 2, 2000.
