' Page 3
City staff determined, based on the bid results, that for Phase I and Phase II the gunite alternate
represents the preferred option for the City. The gunite alternate has been successfully used in other
recent City sewer rehabilitation projects particularly those of large diameter and having varying cross
sections. This is to ensure the practical and cost effective relining of the sewer. Staff has not made its
final decision, at this time, on Phase III because of the cost difference from the Engineer's Estimate.
Staff does want to proceed with the award of construction contracts for Phase I and Phase II at this time.
Coastal Gunite Construction Company was the low bidder for Phase I in the amount of
$350,554.00, and for Phase II in the amount of$610,478.00
The project, City Project 9955,will be funded from the Sanitary Sewer Fund
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the
contract for Phase I and Phase II of the Jasper Street/ Southeast Sewer Rehabilitation, City Project 9955,
to Coastal Gunite Construction Company as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder for Phase I in the
amount of their bid price of$350,554.00 and for Phase II in the amount of their bid price of$610,478.00,
and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract.
Staff will be at the March 20, 2000, City Council meeting to answer questions about this project.
Attach: 3
cc: Phillip Wilhelm, Municipal Services Manager
