Johnson, Acting City Manager '
Bruce A. McNabb, P. E., Director of Public Works
Stephen P. Swanson, P. E., City Enginee
SUBJECT: UPS Backup Power System for the
Jasper Street Communications Building
City Project 9952
It was noted in the City's Y2K review process that the existing uninterruptible
power system (UPS) at the City's Jasper Street radio communications building is
inadequate. The UPS provides short term electrical power to the City's radio system in
the event of an electrical outage until electrical power is restored through the
emergency generator or regular service. The
project was advertised and bids were received and opened on September 28, 1999.
The results of the bid opening (a bid tabulation is attached) are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over (-Under)
Engineer's Estimate $ 3,750.00 ---
Bodine Electric of Decatur $ 10,752.00 286.72%
EGIZII Electric Inc. $ 11,025.00 294.00%
Harner Electric Co. $ 12,950.00 345.33%
Staff is not concerned about the bid amounts exceeding the Engineer's estimate.
This type of work is not typically estimated by the City Engineer's Office.
