RESOLUTION NO. R99-159 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A PRISON FACILITY -LOCATED IN CLINTON, ILLINOIS - WHEREAS, the Governor and Illinois Department of Corrections have expressed an interest in constructing and operating a women's prison facility and a juvenile facility; and, WHEREAS, the location of such facilities is important to municipalities, the Illinois Department of Corrections, and state government; and, WHEREAS, the City of Decatur believes that there are advantages to placing such facilities in a central location; and, WHEREAS, the City of Decatur fully supports the location of a women's prison facility and/or a juvenile facility in Clinton, Illinois, located in DeWitt County; and, WHEREAS, the construction and operation of such a facility will result in new jobs and will benefit the citizens of Decatur, Illinois. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That the City of Decatur wishes to express its full support for the location of a women's prison facility and / or juvenile facility in Clinton, Illinois, which is owned and operated by the State of Illinois, and be it further resolved that the City Clerk is authorized and directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Governor George Ryan and Illinois Department of Corrections Director ponald Snyder.
