"bt A"
The Consultant will provide on-site training to the planrung stafffrom the City. Two workshops will
be held with City staffduring the trairung program. One for travel demand modeling theory and one
for model application. The objective of the training is to transfer state-of-the-art model techniques
to the City staff, so that they can successfully use the model on future travel demand forecasting
related projects. The training will be conducted in the following tasks.
Taslx 1: IntroduCtion to the Travel Demancl Moceling Proeess
The Consultant will conduct a four-day on-site trairung on the basic theory of traditional four-step
modeling process. The topics will include:
♦ Trip generation
♦ Trip distribution
♦ Model split
♦ Trip assignment
♦ Highway networlc evaluation
Tasx 2: Automate te Modeling Procesa with a Menu Spstem
Following the introduction ofthe four-step modeling process, the Consultant will introduce the menu
system SISMAT for the Tranplan modeling process. The menu system, developed by the Consultant
previously for IDOT has the capacity to generate batch files necessary to run the Tranplan programs.
The menu system will allow City staffto run the Tranplan model easily, eliminating the need to learn
the Tranplan control file language and provide a consistent modeling process.
Taslx 3: Moclel Calibration Review
Calibration of travel demand model to replicate existing travel patterns and characteristics.
Replication of base conditions, also known as"calibration" of the model, consists of two issues:
1)what are the base conditions and 2)what do we do to replicate them. Base conditions consist of:
♦ Review of the roads to include in the model network
♦ Accurate description of those streets and intersections
♦ Review of appropriate traffic analysis zones(TAZ's) for that network
♦ Accumulation of appropriate and accurate directional traffic counts
♦ Understanding the traffic on the streets which connects the model network to the outside world
in terms of internal-eernal interactions versus eernal-external or through trip interactions
Pae 1 0 3
