 ' I
. . !
associated with operating a project of this type at some distance from their home offices. One
local firm continued to express an interest in the project—IZomer Brothers frequently called for
information.
When the extended deadline passed and no bids were received, staff contacted Mr. Romer to ask
whether he would be interested in reconsidering lus decision not to apply, and invited him to a
meeting on Tuesday, July 13. After negotiation with Mike Romer it was agreed that Romer
Brothers will undertake the Pilot Leaf Vacuuriung Program for a fixed fee of Sixty Two Thousand
Dollars ($62,000) for labor and equipment, plus an additional Four pollars ($4) per cubic yard on
each load of leaves brought to his facility for tipping fees.
Demonstration Areas. The areas that staff has selected, with input from Mr. Romer, for the
program were the Near West, Greendell, and Johns Hill area. These areas were chosen because
they have good tree canopy, and therefore a large annual burden of fallen leaves; and a lugh level
of visibility to passing motorists. Because of the experinnental nature of the project, it was agreed
that the program will proceed on an incremental basis, that is, the start will be wzth a certain area,
the Near West, and depending on the outcome the other areas will be consequently added.
Staff requests the approval of the attached resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign the enclosed
contract with Romer Brothers Environmental Recycling, Inc.
