Williams,Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb P.E.,Director of Public Works$
Matthew C. Newell P.E.,Traffic Engineer --Cr
SUBJECT: Contract for Engineering Services - Condit Street Subway
Improvements
An item on the agenda for the City Council Meeting to be held on July 19, 1999, is a
contract with WVP Corporation for up to $11,364.00 to provide engineering services for the
design of pedestrian improvements to the Condit Street Subway.
Several years ago the Illinois Commerce Commission permanently closed the at grade
railroad track crossing on Marietta Street east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. In June 1997,
WVP Corporation completed a pedestrian crossing feasibility study for the area around the
Longview Housing area that recommended improvements to the Condit Street Subway to better
accommodate pedestrians.
Because of WVP Corporation's experience with the feasibility study, City staff
recommends that they be awarded this design contract.
Funding will come from the General Capital Fund.
City staff will be present to answer questions of the Council.
Attach:2
