BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES <br />' It is our understanding that: <br /> � • The Mayor and City Council (City Council) is interested in identifying outstanding candidates and <br /> filling the position of City Manager as soon as possible. <br /> , • The City Council wishes to conduct a comprehensive nation-wide recruitment process to ensure the <br /> best qualified candidates are found and that the best qualified individual, acceptable to the City <br /> Council, can be hired. <br /> ' • The annual salary range for the position will be determined through discussions with the City <br /> Council. <br /> , The objectives that we will meet to help find the best qualified candidates for the position are as follows: <br /> • To assist the City Council to produce a comprehensive position profile and reach agreement about <br /> , the specifications for the position. <br /> • To seek out and encourage top level people to apply who would otherwise be reluctant to respond <br /> � to an advertisement. <br /> • To save the City Council and staff a considerable amount of time in establishing a position profile <br /> and reviewing applicants. <br /> 1 • To comply with appropriate personnel regulations and State of 111inois laws. <br /> , • To independently and objectively assess the qualifications and suitability of candidates for the <br /> position. <br /> , • To preserve the confidentiality of inquiries to the degree possible under Ilfinois law. <br /> • To assist the City Council to reach a final decision and in negotiating a compensation package with <br /> the successful candidate. , <br /> ' • To assist the City Council in establishing criteria for evaluating the new City Manager's performance. I� <br /> � • To follow-up with the City Council and the selected employee during the first year to determine if i <br /> adjustments need to be made.
