Williams, Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, P.E., Director of Public Works g
Stephen P. Swanson, P.E., City Engineef
V
SUBJECT: FY 1999 - 2000 Motor Fuel Tax Resolution
The Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds allocated to local agencies are administered by the Illinois
Department of Transportation (IDOT). The local agency must approve a resolution establishing
the scope of work and appropriating MFT funds for the project. IDOT will then review the
resolution to determine that adequate funding is available and that the scope of work is an
allowable MFT expenditure. The appropriation of MFT funds will be approved by IDOT if these
two conditions are satisfied.
The City's Engineering Division has prepared the Municipal Estimate of Maintenance Cost
for the Fiscal Year 1999 - 2000 contracted street maintenance program funded with MFT funds.
The preliminary cost estimate for this year's contracted street maintenance program has been
prepared to be within the City's allocated MFT funds. The contracted street maintenance
program includes two basic types of pavement resurfacing. The first type of resurfacing is
placing a new pavement surface directly over an existing pavement. The second type involves
milling the existing surface to remove a buildup of previous overlays and then placing a new
pavement surface over the milled surface. This work is done to extend the life of the roadway
and improve ride quality.
