 a . -
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 99-65
A ril 12 1999
P
TO: Honorable Mayor rry M. Howley and City Council Members
FROM: 7ames L. Willi , ., City Manager
Bruce A. McNab , Director of Public Works n
Cecil A. Collins, Jr., Director of Community Developmentp
SUBJECT: Geographic Information System
Attached to this memorandum is a proposed agreement between Macon County and the City of
Decatur to provide an updated comprehensive Geographic Information System(GIS)for the City
of Decatur. This agreement will allow the City to save considerable tax dollars by joint venturing
with the County to perform these services. The benefits to the City are very significant.
Bruce Harris and Associates is currently under contract with Macon County to upgrade their GIS
program for the entire County. The intergovernmental agreement will allow the City an
opportunity to "piggy back" on the County's contract to provide a substantial upgrade to the
accuracy of work being performed as well as the accuracy of the aerial photos being taken. The
contract amount is not to exceed $240,000 and funds are part of the proposed 1999-2000 capital
budget of the City of Decatur.
Staff will be available to answer questions.
