E., City Engineer j;��� <br /> SUBJECT: City Project 9806 <br /> Base Failure Program <br /> The City's base failure program involves making repairs to existing streets in advance of <br /> the City's annual overlay program. The repairs are made to selected locations where the <br /> pavement has become severely cracked, settled, raveled or deteriorated. <br /> The Engineering Division prepared the specifications for this project. The project was <br /> advertised for competitive bids and the single bid received was opened on Monday, August 10, <br /> 1998. The results (copy of the bid tabulation is attached) of the letting are as follows: <br /> Compared to <br /> Engineer's Est. <br /> Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) <br /> Engineer's Estimate $ 71,352.65 ---- <br /> Dunn Company $ 77,892.75 8.89 <br /> The receipt of one bid is a concern to staff as it relates to the City obtaining competitive <br /> bids for its work. However, bid request notices for this project were mailed to eleven firms that <br /> have asked about doing asphalt related work for the City. In addition, notices were sent to three <br /> "plan-hold" offices that serve as central bureaus for contractors wanting to obtain information on <br />
