tiO Dfc'
- c
v s

'LINO`'
May 19, 1998
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 98 - 33
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L. Williams, Jr., City Manager V
Bruce A. McNabb, Director of Public Works
Keith D. Alexander, Lake Manager
SUBJECT: Illinois State Water Survey Nitrate Monitoring Contract
The attached resolution is for the approval of a contract with the Illinois State Water Survey
to continue nitrate monitoring from May 1, 1998, through April 30, 1999, in the Lake Decatur
Watershed for the sixth consecutive year. It also provides for the reporting and comparison of
these findings with the first five years of monitoring, with a report to be delivered no later than
July 31, 1999.
The monitoring will be beneficial to the City by indicating, to a limited extent, the impact that
watershed management techniques have on Lake Decatur nitrate levels, including Macon County
Soil and Water Conservation District efforts and the current IEPA / USEPA nonpoint source
pollution control grant project.
The total contract cost is $35,033. The proposal is identical in scope and cost to the
previous contract. Fundin is available in the approved Fiscal Year 1998-99 Water Fund Budget.
City staff recommends that this contract be approved to continue monitoring the City's watershed
management nitrate reduction efforts.
attach.: 2
