Swanson, P.E., City Engineer� <br /> SUBJECT: Watermain Extension Program <br /> City Project 9701 <br /> The City's annual Watermain Extension Program involves the installation of new watermain <br /> to extend the City's water distribution system and improve the system's reliability and service. <br /> This involves the installation of new mains to create connections between existing mains <br /> minimizin the ossibility of customers being without water in the event of a watermain break or <br /> � P <br /> temporary shutdown during watermain maintenance work. In addition, the program e�ends the <br /> distribution system to serve new customers that have requested service or to facilitate the <br /> accessibility to the City's water distribution system by future developments. New customers are <br /> evaluated on an economic return basis to insure the City realizes a return on its investment. <br /> Each year the Engineering Division reviews the 5-year watermain extension program, <br /> customer requests, newly identified distribution system needs and the estimated economic return <br /> in extending service to new customers that have requested service. The Division also reviews <br /> other capital improvement projects planned by the City or other agencies. This is done to <br /> coordinate the improvements to minimize construction conflicts or cause other completed work to <br /> be torn up and redone. In addition, staff advises the City's Fire Department of the planned <br /> e�ensions to have fire hydrant locations reviewed. <br /> This year's program includes two e�ensions serving to improve system reliability and service, <br /> and two customer service e�ensions. The system upgrades include the Center Street e�ension <br /> and Waterford Terrace extension. The Center Street e�ension will complete the e�ension of <br /> City watermain to Wyckles Road. The Waterford Terrace e�ension connects two segments of <br />
