Buckingham, Neighborhood Renewal Administrator ', <br /> SUBJECT: City Project 9726a !� <br /> NWRAPS Neighborhood Traffic Control !I <br /> An item on the agenda for the March 2, 1998 City Council meeting is the acceptance of bids �'I <br /> and award of a contract to complete permanent traffic control improvements on Macon Street ��, <br /> between Monroe and Oakland. At the May 6, 1996 meeting of the City Council, City staff was <br /> authorized to install a temporary diverter at Crea/Macon and a temporary street closure on � <br /> Macon, east of Oakland. <br /> Over the past 22 months, City staff has received recommendations for permanent traffic <br /> control installations from the Near West Side Preservation Society(]VWRAPS) and Traffic and � <br /> Parking Commission. These discussions were presented to the Council in the July, 1997 minutes � <br /> of the Traffic and Parking Commission Meeting. The proposed improvements will consist of curb <br /> and gutter work similar to the improvements made in the Old King's Orchard neighborhood and <br /> are provided on the attached drawings. As given in past transmittals, the stated goal of the � <br /> project is to discourage through traffic in the neighborhood. <br /> City staffhas proceeded with this project in a manner consistent with direction provided by <br /> the City Council. <br /> Bids were received on February 17, 1998, for the subject project.
