Ratekin,Assistant City Engineer (,(/
SUBJECT: Main and William Sewer Repairs
City Project 9723
The City of Decatur Engineering Division investigated a sinking section of pavement in the
intersection of Main and William. The investigation determined that at least one sewer pipe in the
area has collapsed. The collapse has caused the pavement problem in the intersection, as the
ground under the pavement has continued to collapse and get washed down the sewer. The
collapsed line serves the four curb intakes in the intersection of Main and William, plus an area
drain in the parking lot of the Dean Witter office building. This collapsed line may have
contributed to floodinproblems at the office building.
The project was advertised and bids were received and opened on Wednesday, October 8,
1997. The results of the bid opening(a bid tabulation is attached) are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est. ,
I Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) I
Engineer's Estimate $ 76,045.00 ---
Sewer Incorporated $ 52,240.00 (31.30)
Staff has reviewed the single bid and determined that the bid is reasonable for the scope of
work. The work involves the abandonment of existing sewers; the installation of new, larger
diameter sewers and the inspection of other existing sewers in the area that have not been
accessible for inspection.
