of.DEc
a
c
v ro
LINOY
October 13, 1997
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 97-96
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L. Williams,Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, P.E., Director of Public Works
Matthew C. Newell,P.E., Traffic Engineer S.Z,e-.
SUBJECT: Lighting Upgrade-Parking Garage C, Lower Level
City Project 9736
An item on the agenda for the City Council meeting of Monday, October 20, 1997, is a
resolution approving an agreement with Blank, Wesselink, Cook and Associates, Inc. to design a
lighting upgrade for the lower level of City Parking Garage C, located on the northeast corner of
Franklin and Wood Streets.
The lower level of Garage C is cunently lighted with fluorescent lighting which is not as
efficient for outdoor use as other available lighting systems. During colder weather, the
fluorescent lamps do not light the garage to the desired level. Additionally, the age of the current
lighting system is causing the facility to become increasingly labor intensive to maintain. Staff is
confident that an upgaded lighting system will decrease ongoing electricity costs and maintenance
labor while increasing the light level. A higher level of safety for arage patrons will be the
ultimate result.
The design work will have a totallump sum cost of$7,300 that will be paid for with funds
allocated in the Motor Vehicle Parking System budget.
