McNabb,P.E.,Director of Public Works 1+
, Debora L. Bean,Acting Community Development Director
Matthew C. Newell, P.E., Traflic Engineer
SUBJECT: Macon Place Neighborhood Street Closures
City Project 9726
City staff reviewed the proposed permanent closure design for the Macon Place
Neighborhood at the Study Session held on May 30, 1997. At that time, the Council directed
staff to complete the design process and acquire bids for implementing the closures. Staff has
proceeded with this project in a manner consistent with the direction provided by the City
Council. A detailed drawing of the final design is attached hereto.
As stated in prior transmittals to the Council, the crime prevention objective for the
Macon Place Neighborhood closures is to discourage pedestrian activity. This objective is best
achieved through the use of a fence segment as opposed to a standard curbing design which
would provide no perceived pedestrian discouragement.
The proposed project was advertised for bids and notices mailed to contractors on the
Engineering Division's bidder's list for this type of work. Bids were received and opened on
October 13, 1997. The results of the letting(a bid tabulation is attached) are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under)
Engineer's Estimate $ 30,215.00 ---
Christy-Foltz, Inc. $ 21,108.00 (30.14)
Western Waterproofing Co. $ 42,072.00 39.24
