f . r
i:Of•Df C9
 C
V 70
r
'/[LtNOY
June 30, 1997
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM
NO. 97-67
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L. Williams, Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, Director of Public Works1
Stephen P. Swanson, City Engineer
SUBJECT: Miscellaneous Storm Sewer Improvements
City Project 9610
The City's miscellaneous storm sewer program involves constructing drainage improvements
at various locations throughout the City. The locations are selected from the list of reported or
known problem areas maintained by the Engineering Division. Projects included in this program
are intended to correct localized drainage problems and have an estimated cost of less $15,000.
The selection of a location is not based solely on a first come, first served basis. In addition
to cost, the number of projects selected are limited by the Division's workload. A formal rating
system has not been implemented by the Division, but project selection considers such factors as
health and safety, protection of private property, legal liability, public benefit, number of
properties benefited and the estimated cost. Five locations are included in this project and are as
follows:
Nickey Avenue/Lakewood Avenue. Install new culverts and small diameter storm sewer
pipe to improve the drainage outfall for this area to mitigate ponding in backyards and the
flooding of streets.
1800 Block West Riverview Avenue. Replace two culverts to correct problem of the
back-up and ponding of storm water runoff creating drainageway maintenance problems.
Buckingham Drive south of Cambridge Drive. Install four new inlets to correct street
flooding problem at this location.
