PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM #97 - 27 June 18, 1997 TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: James Williams, City Manager Beth Couter, Financial Management Director Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor�.� SUBJECT: TOWING BIDS Attached you will find a bid summary for towing services. The bid was divided into three categories. Category I are the Police Department authority tows. This category applies to vehicles not owned or leased by the City of Decatur which are removed and/or impounded from the streets of the City of Decatur under the order and direction of any City of Decatur Police Officer or Impoundment Officer. By way of example but not limited to, this would include wrecked vehicles from accident scenes, removing vehicles which constitute a traffic hazard, removing vehicles that may be evidence of a crime, removing vehicles involving injury where ' the operator is unable to select an option, vehicles that need to be removed as a result of an arrest situation, removing abandoned vehicles etc. The charges incurred for this portion of the contract are to be paid by the individual receiving the service. Category II of the bid applies to towing of any City of Decatur owned, rented or leased vehicle which is out of commission or a seized vehicle. By way of example but not limited to, this would include removing wrecked vehicle from accident scene, towing for periodic vehicle auctions,jump starting a vehicle, repairing and changing flat tires, changing lamps and fuses, etc. Category III of the bid encompasses storage of a seized vehicle which may result in forfeiture. It is staff recommendation for Prairieland Towing to furnish towing services per their bid for the City of Decatur (Category I & III). Category I will be provided for $25.00 per tow, this amount will be paid by the individual(s) receiving the service.
