PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#97 • 18
April 15, 1997
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: James Williams, Jr., City Manager
Beth Couter, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisorc
SUBJECT: CHASSIS FOR FIRE
Attached you will find a bid summary for a chassis to be used by the Fire Department on a rescue
vehicle. This chassis will replace a 1992 model Ford F-450 super duty truck currently in use.
The reason the bid on this chassis is over $10,000 more than the chassis bid for the Forestry
section is that the Fire Department required additional equipment. The additional equipment
required is as follows: a crew cab to carry two or more firemen with turn-out gear, a larger
engine for more power and quicker takeoffs from a stop, a power source regulator for additional
lights and radios, aluminum wheels for rust prevention, and a six speed transmission for higher
highway speeds and quicker acceleration.
This is actually a single axle dump truck chassis. The State of Illinois awarded a contract to
Prairie International for single and tandem axle dump trucks. The City of Decatur is eligible to
piggyback on this contract, along with other local governmental agencies.
It is staff recommendation to accept the bid of Prairie International to furnish one (1) 1998
International 4900 4 x 2 crew cab chassis for$45,860.
