PURCHASING& INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#97 - O1
January 13, 1997
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: James Williams, Jr., City Manager
Beth Couter, Financial Management Director
Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor(
SUBJECT: PICK UP TRUCK BIDS (I1rTIT 278)
Attached you will find a bid summary for a pick up truck to be used by the Street Division. It will
replace a 1990 model Ford Econoline van currently in use.
There was a tie for low bid between Miles Chevrolet and Northtown Ford. However, it would be
beneficial to award the bid to Northtown Ford for several reasons. First, the other full size trucks
(purchased in December) were awarded to Northtown Ford and it would be easier to arrange
deliveries and wananty vork with only one dealership. Secondly, having one Chevrolet would
require the City to stock parts for this one vehicle as opposed to having several Fords and keeping
parts standardized and somewhat to a minimum. And third, according to MSC Manager, Phil
Wilhelm, the training for mechanics would be an issue. He states it would be costly to send
mechanics to both Ford and GM for training updates rather than to just Ford.
It is staffrecommendation to award the bid to Northtown Ford to furnish one (1) 1997 Ford HD
F250, 4 x 4 3/4 ton short bed pick up truck with eended cab and snow plow for $24,995.00.
