Item Coversheet Page 1 of 1 � Purchasing DATE: 4/12/2016 MEMO: 16-04 TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager Gregg Zientara,Financial Management Director Deborah M.Perry,Purchasing Supervisor SUBJECT: Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)Purchase SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding contract to Municipal Emergency Services,Inc.to provide Globe G-Xtreme Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)from the present through the end of 2018. BACKGROUND: The Personal Protective Equipment(PPE)will be used by the Fire Department and will replace sets(coat and pants)that are 5 years old and older. The National Fire Protective Association requires turn out gear be replaced when needed,but no more than 10 years old. The Fire Department replaces their PPE on a 5 year cycle because they have found that to be the most cost effective. The Fire Department anticipates replacing approximately 15-25 sets of PPE per year. The Fire Department standardized with Globe X-treme PPE three years ago. At that time,the department conducted a lengthy field test of various PPE from different manufacturers. The PPE from Municipal Emergency Services,Inc.for Globe G-Xtreme held up the best and there were no failures. During the past three years,the Globe PPE has performed well. By standardizing,Fire personnel can deal with one company for any issues that occur. In addition,extending the agreement another three years will allow the Fire Department to reach their goal of all firefighters having the same PPE. This also allows the department to purchase a few sets of PPE every year instead of trying to purchase all 110 sets in the same budget year. The PPE from Municipal Emergency Services,Inc.meets NFPA standards for fire fighting. POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Fire Department requested the renewal and recommends approval of the purchase. BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: From the General Fund 2016-Coat $1,024.00 Pants $ 772.00 2017&2018 Prices will not exceed a 3%increase.
