Williams,Jr., City Manager .A
Bruce A. McNabb,Director of Public Works "`
Stephen P. Swanson, City Engineerj
John A. Smith,Water Production Manager
SUBJECT: SWTP-Pump Station Modifications (Corley Closure)
City Project 9421A
This project involves the installation of a new 4-inch force main and modifications to an
existing lift station near the City's raw water pump station at the Lake Decatur Dam. The new
force main replaces an 8-inch force main that connected to a sanitary sewer main abandoned by
the Sanitary District of Decatur (SDD). The abandonment by SDD was planned because of the
minin o erations b the Vulcan Materials Com an . This abandonment re uired the Cit to
g P Y P Y q Y
reroute its sanitary sewer force main to another location.
The force main size was reduced from an 8-inch to a 4-inch diameter as the old main served
the City's original water works plant that has been replaced by the new South Water Treatment
Plant. The new 4-inch force main will serve only the raw water treatment plant which generates
substantially less wastewater flows.
