RESOLUTION NO. R96-136 <br /> RESOLUITON URGING SUPPORT FOR 9-1-1 <br /> EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM <br /> WHEREAS,Macon County currently has a 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System; and, <br /> W�-IEREAS, the Emergency Telephone System Act of the State of Illinois allows counties <br /> and municipalities to impose a surcharge upon all telephone subscribers passed through <br /> telecommunication camers at a rate per network connection in order to implement or upgade the <br /> Emergency Telephone System; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Act further provides that before the surcharge may be imposed, it must I�, <br /> be authorized by a majority of the voters in a referendum by the county; and, <br /> WHEREAS, a referendum will be placed by the County Clerk on the November 5, 1996 <br /> ballot for all legal voters residing in the County of Macon to vote upon whether the County shall <br /> impose a surcharge of up to $1.25 per month per network connection for the purposes of <br /> improving the current 9-1-1 Emergency System; and, <br /> WHEREAS, if the referendum is approved, significant benefits will accrue to the residents <br /> of the City of Decatur by the upgrades and enhancements to the current Emergency Telephone <br /> System; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Decatur deems it to be in the best interest of <br /> the City of Decatur to upgrade the Emergency Telephone System and is desirous of encouraging <br /> the legal voters residing in the City of Decatur to vote in favor of the referendum. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY TI-� CITY COUNCII, OF TI� CITY OF DECATUR, <br /> II.LINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the Council of the City of Decatur does hereby urge the voters of Macon <br /> County to vote "YES" on the imposition of a telephone surcharge not to exceed $1.25 per month <br /> for each access line for the purpose of improving the 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System in <br /> Macon County, as said question is presented on the ballot for the November 5, 1996 General <br /> Election. <br /> PRESENTED and ADOPTED this 7th day of October, 1996. <br /> j' Terry . , � <br /> AT��T: � <br /> ,% / <br /> � <br /> .-�� � � ��"" �.1/�-�S <br /> CITY CLERK� <br />
