of.DFC'
-. C
v o0
/[lINO Y Ii
September 24, 1996
PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM I
NO. 96-67
MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: James L. Williams,Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, Director of Public Works
Stephen P. Swanson, City EngineerG,
SUBJECT: Watermain Replacement Program
City Project 9620A
The City's 6-inch watermain extending west along Harrison Avenue from the 24-inch
watermain in Brush College Road and under the Illinois Central Ra.ilroad tracks has experienced a
number of recent breaks and must be replaced. At the time Brush College Road was
reconstructed, the repair history of the watermain did not indicate that the watermain needed to
be replaced. The work essentially involves excavating a bore pit on the west side of the railroad
tracks, boring an 18-inch casing pipe under the tracks, installing about 110 feet of 6-inch
watermain and connecting to the 24-inch main in Brush College Road. The existing watermain
will be abandoned in place after the new watermain is put into service.
As part of this project, the City will be cooperating with Macon County and the Illinois
Department of Transportation to permit them to examine the Brush College Road pavement and
to make repairs to a drainage structure.
The project was designed in-house and bids were received and opened on September 24,
1996, for this project. The results of the letting are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under)
Engineer's Estimate $ 53,394.00 ---
Bodine Services, Inc. $ 55,455.00 3.86
