have an inventory of spare parts and they were not currently servicing any Seltronics equipment.
The facility was set up to handle both the sale and servicing of general office equipment.
Seltronics also provided me with a list of current users of their equipment_ One of the users was ;
the Cape Girardeau, Missouri Police Depar[ment and I visited their communications center '
personally to view the equipment and talk to their personnel. I found that the DAT drives in the I
Seltronics equipment have been replaced six (6) times since September of 1993. The personnel
that I visited with also indicated that service was provided by a smaller telephone company
based in Memphis, Tennessee. Granted, the Cape Girardeau center is small in size but when I
visited, there was a noise similar to a transformer hum coming from the Seltronics equipment
that could be heard throughout the center. The personnel present indicated that it had started a
few days earlier but the equipment still functioned OK....
Another important reason for preferring the Dictaphone proposal is that the logging equipment
can be expanded from 48 to 64 channels with the purchase of an additional circuit board costing
approximately $7,000.00 while the Seltronics is limited to 48 channels. It would require a
complete new recording unit to expand the Seltronics loging system.
Sangamon County uses the Dictaphone system that I am recommending and has not experienced
any hazdwaze failure in the approximate two year period they have had it.
The intended use for the system mandates that the equipment be of high quality and reliability
with service readily available when required. .
Please let me know if you have any questions.
