` .
. ; r
Community Development
Memorandum
96-80
May 7, 1996
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
From: Daniel R. Sommerfeldt, Interim City Manager
George C. Weaver, Director of Department of Community Development
Robert S. Reed, Mass Transit Administrator
Subject: Mass Transit Capital Grant Application for FY'96
The attached resolution will authorize the filing of a mass transit capital grant application
with the Illinois Department of Transportation. The State received a Section 5309 discretionary
Bus Allocation appropriation from the federal government last Fall. Those funds will be passed
thru to transit systems in Illinois.
The City was originally programmed to receive $880,000, but the reductions in federal
funding resulted in a lesser amount being available. The application is for a total of$655,050,
which will consist of$524,040 in federal funds and $131,010 in State funds. The monies are to
be used to purchase 3 new transit coaches which will replace a like number of 1979 Grumman
Flxible 870 buses.
It is expected that it will be at least 2 years before new buses can be purchased and
delivered to Decatur.
