Perry, Purchasing Supervisor
SUBJECT: DUMP TRUCK BIDS
Attached you will find a bid summary for tandem axle dump trucks to be used by the Street and
Sewer Division of the Public Works Department. These trucks will replace two 1990 model
International dump trucks currently in use.
The State of Illinois awarded a contract to Prairie International for the purchase of 95 single and
27 tandem axle dump trucks for the 1997 model year. The City of Decatur is eligible to
piggy-back on this contract, along with other local governmental agencies. To date, Prairie
International has received orders for 45 trucks from other local government agencies (ie:
townships, counties, etc.).
The City of Decatur mailed specifications to twenty companies for two trucks. It is difficult for
other bidders to compete on just two trucks as compared to the State which has a larger volume.
Most bidders do not want to take the time preparing a bid if they know they cannot be
competitive.
It is staff recommendation to accept the bid of Prairie International to furnish two (2) 1997
International 4900 tandem axle dump trucks with tailgate spreaders and snow plows for a total of
$149,362.00.
cc: Beth Couter
