RESOLUTION NO. R96-22 <br /> RESOLUTION SUPPORTING DEVELOPMENT <br /> OF A PRESIDENTIAL CORRIDOR <br /> WHEREAS, tourism has become a high growth industry in the nation and the State of Illinois <br /> is a key tourism state; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has had three of its distinguished citizens elected to the <br /> nation's highest office, that of President of the United States; Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham <br /> Lincoln and Ronald W. Reagan; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the mayors of the City of Dixon, City of Eureka, City of Galena, City of <br /> Springfield, and the City of Tampico have exhibited their community's historical interest in one or <br /> more of the three presidents of the United States of America; and, <br /> VV��REAS, tourism has served as a catalyst or as an economic development °headstart" <br /> program for tourism in other communities, tourism can also serve as a headstart for economic <br /> growth in the City of Decatur and Macon County, Illinois. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> DECATUR, II,LINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the City of Decatur, Illinois is of historical significance to President Abraham <br /> Lincoln. <br /> Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Decatur, Illinois in concert with other <br /> interested communities and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs' Director <br /> of Tourism become actively involved in the development of a Presidential Corridor honoring the <br /> three Presidents. <br /> Section 3. That the City Council of the City of Decatur, Illinois hereby designates a member <br /> of the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau to serve on the Presidential Comdor Advisory <br /> Board. <br /> PRESENTED and ADOPTED this 19th day of February, 1996. <br /> ERRY M�_� Fv MA <br /> .--�. <br /> ATTEST: � <br /> 1 <br /> CI CLE <br />
