. <br /> . . . , <br /> . . <br /> — <br /> Keep Decatur-Macon County Beautiful (KDMCB) <br /> (formerly known as Decatur-Macon County Clean Community System (CCS)) <br /> PO Box 4092 <br /> Decatur,IL 62525 <br /> 217/872-7488 (217/TRASH88) <br /> fax 872-7489 <br /> MISSION The non-pro�t organization works toward county-wide education and behavior change <br /> in litter prevention,solid waste management and other local environmental concerns. <br /> CERTIFICATION Keep America Beautiful Inc.(KAB)certified this system in 1982 and supplies educational <br /> information,awards and networking. <br /> ORGANIZATION KDMCB is a volunteer group of businesses,civic members,and concerned individuals with a <br /> volunteer Board of Directors,volunteer Advisory Council,Executive Director and one seasonal <br /> part-time secretary. <br /> EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Duties of the only full-time,salaried employee are varied. She meets with the Officers and <br /> Executive committee regularly to handle policy decisions,set agendas and develop short- <br /> term and long-term organization plans. She is office manager,attends all committee meet- <br /> ings,community spokesperson,coordinator of events and public relations and writes grant <br /> proposals. The current Director also is the desktop publishing specialist for all publications <br /> and correspondence.One part-time,seasonal secretary works with the Director during the <br /> school year. <br /> FUNDING Annual grants and/or requests for funding from City of Decatur,Macon County Solid Waste <br /> Management Department,Keep Illinois Beautiful,local McDonald's,Decatur Earthmover <br /> Credit Union,Zonta Club of Decatur,federal,state and local foundations,and other businesses, <br /> civic groups and individuals. ' <br /> ACCOMPLISHMENTS Current emphasis is on education of integrated solid waste management and litter prevendon. <br /> Although environmental problems are global in nature,KDMCB stresses local perspective and <br /> possible local action.KDMCB inspires the community to create and embrace solutions. <br /> Annual Report to Keep A►nerica Beautiful shows,a$6.00 return for eve ,�r� $1.00 invested in our pro- <br /> gram by government funding(based on volunteer hours,donated goods and services,cost avoidance, <br /> and reduction in the local govemment deparpnent or agency costs). <br /> Annually over 5,0pp Macon County residents volunteer over 20.000 hours to many projects for an <br /> estimated value of�295.000 in labor and donated$oods and services.With these benefits and cost <br /> avoidance,a great deal of work is done in our county. <br /> Volunteers cle�n up more than�0,000 tons of litter,��Over 120 miles of local roadways have <br /> been adopted for clean up by volunteer groups. <br /> Our recycling awareness projects reduced tons of waste sent to the local landfill in 1993-95 <br /> We calculate a Z�o litter reduction since 1986 measurecl by the Keep America Beautiful Photometric <br /> Index,an annual series of photographs taken each year to monitor changes in litter throughout the <br /> community. <br /> It is estimated that more than 40%of Macon County k-6 students participate in KDMCB projects. <br /> Millikin Universitv intems have worked on KDMCB projects(many as mentors for k-12th grade stu- <br /> dents)since 1992 <br /> With Richland Communitv Colle�KDMCB has revived interest in environmental science fairs for <br /> Macon County students. <br /> page 9 <br />
