/ 4

 ' '
ADMINIS'TRATIVE MEMORANDUM
#95-21
March 9, 1995
TO: Phyllis E. Sands, City Clerk
FROM: James C. BaG r Jr., City Manager

RE: Recommendation to Modify Refuse Raxes
This offce has received requests from six licensed refuse haulers to modify the ecisting fee
schedule. Their requests and my recommendation aze shown on the attached table. The
recommended effective date for the new schedule is July 1, 1995.
Following receipt of the requests from the six haulers, public hearings were held in
accordance with the provisions of Chapter 56 of the City Code. A transcript of the hearing is
enclosed. Based on a review of the information provided at that hearing it is my belief that the
schedule of rates needs to be modified. The basis for that decision is a demonstrated increase in
costs experienced by the haulers. While these costs are not reflected unifornily in the application
material, it is clear that a major shared cost increase for all of them is the tipping fee which is now
$20.00 per ton, almost twice the rate when the current schedule was adopted.
This increase is provided in accordance with Section 42 of Chapter 56. As you know, the
City Council may act on these recommendations within 45 days but is not required to do so.
Enclosures
