COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#95-07
February 21, 1995
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
':
FROM: James C. Baco 7r., City Manager
`
RE: Taxi Application Public Hearing
A hearing to consider a application for taxi license was conducted February 8, 1995. A
copy of the hearing transcript is attached. I have reviewed the application and information
presented in the hearing. Based on a review of that information, I recommend that the Decatur
City Council approve a ti license for Pride Midwest Services, Inc. to operate as Decatur Yellow
Checker Cab.
My review of the information includes the determination that Decatur Pride is currently
the only licensed cab company operating in Decatur, that it has increased the number of units
operating in the city and continues to have difficulty meeting demand. I find further that Decatur
Yellow Checker Cab has been approved by the Illinois Secretary of State and that the applicant
considers that additional service will result from approving the application because of the
importance of name recognition in the taxi cab industry. No one spoke in opposition to the
request and no one filed written comments objecting to it. Finally, the applicant agreed to have all
vehicles operating under this application in compliance with the provisions of Chapter 60.
Therefore, I find that the applicant has met the requirements as outlined in Chapter 60 of the
Decatur City Code and recommend that the license be granted.
Attachment
