r .
Community Development
Memorandum
94-281
December 14, 1994
To• H nor le Ma or and Cit Council Members
 o ab
• Y Y
From: James C. Bacon, Jr., City Manager
George C. Weaver, Director of Department of Community Developmen +
Robert S. Reed, Mass Transit Administrator
Subject: Mass Transit Capital Grant Application
Upon City Council approval, the attached resolution will authorize the filing of a mass
transit capital grant application with the Illinois Department of Transportation. The application
will request $800,000 in federal Section 3 funds and $200,000 in State funds for a multi-modal
transportation center.
The site for the center will accomodate 13 buses where passengers can transfer from one
route to another. In addition to a passenger waiting area, the facility will have an area where the
transit system can sell passes, punchcards, and tokens, as well as provide information and route
and schedule maps. There will also be space for other modes of transportation, such as intercity
buses, taxi-cabs, bicycles, etc.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will submit a single Section 3 grant
application to the Federal Transit Administration for all of the capital projects in the State. It
will probably be the summer of 1995 before a grant award is made.
