PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#93 - 12
February 11 , 1993
T0: James C. Bacon, Jr . , City Manager
FROM: Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing SupervisorUQ II
SUBJECT: DUMP TRUCK BIDS
Attached you will find a bid summary for three ( 3 ) dump
trucks and two ( 2 ) spreaders . Two of the dump trucks will be
used by the Street Divsision and the other by the Water
Distribution Division of the Public Works Department. They
will replace two ( 2 ) 1986 model International and a 1984
model Ford dump trucks currently in use .
The bid specifications requested a bid on steel spreaders and
as well as stainless steel spreaders , in order to get a cost
comparison. Even though the stainless steel spreaders
initial cost is more , it is the hope of the Muncipal Service
Center Manager that the useful life of a spreader can be
doubled by going to stainless steel . The spreaders currently
have a useful life of seven years . In the lonq run this
should save the City money.
It is the staff recommendation to accept the alternate low
bid of Prairie International to furnish three ( 3 )
International dump trucks with Monroe bodies for
$129 ,103 . 00 . In addition, it is the staff recommendation to
purchase two ( 2 ) stainless steel tailgate spreaders from
Prairie International for $4760 . 00 .
cc : Beth Couter
