. !
7
C. PROJECT DESCRII'TION AND LOCATION MAP
1. Proiect Description and Specifications:
The Boys and Girls Club has over the . years traditionally
comprised youth baseball teams for competition in the
city' s Khoury League. (See Exhibit A) . Since the
construction of Phoenix Park and its ball diamond, we have
expressed our interest and the need for the city' s inner-
city kids to be able to play in their neighborhood. Fortunately,
league administrators of the Khoury League agreed with us
and granted our teams home games at Phoenix Park. (See Exhibit
B) .
In order to provide a safe environment, encourage parent and
spectator involvement and demonstrate our continual commitment
to provide constructive alternative activities to gangs and
juvenile delinquency, the following repairs, upgrading and
improvements are requested:
l. The orginial and present infield is in terrible
condition comprised of hard, dry dirt ; and filled
with bricks, pieces of brick rocks, metal objects
which have resulted in rumerous cuts, bruises, and
torn uniforms by players. A fear exsist by players
to field ground balls as well as sliding due to the
condition of the infield which greatly inhibits
the teaching of fundamentals.
2. The arch baseball backstop is needed to replace
the present conventional one which has numerous
holes in it as well as damaged wire. The new arch
backstop will greatly reduce the number of batter
foul tips leaving the ball field. Presently foul
tip balls go over the backstop into the street and
children dash into the street without concern for
moving traffic as well as damages to parked cars.
3. Player benches within an enclosed fenced area are
desired to maintain separation from non-players
and equipment accountability.
4. To purchase additional 8' fence to enclose entire
ballfield
2. Location Ma.p Inciuded:
X Yes
No
