PURCHASING & INTERNAL SERVICES MEMORANDUM
#92 - 40
July 20 , 1992
TO: James C. Bacon, Jr. , City Manager
FROM: Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing SupervisorC''
SUBJECT: BOTTLED WATER •
Attached you will find •a bid summary for bottled water. The
water will be used with the Infant Water Distribution Program as
required in the letter of commitment the City has with the
Environmental Protection Agency.
We estimate using approximately 30 ,000 gallons of bottled water
from the present time until the end of the fiscal year on April
30, 1993 .
The low bid of Culligan does not meet City of Decatur
specifications in two areas . The City specifications asked for
weekly delivery to four seperate locations - the Municipal
Service Center, the South Water Treatment Plant , Decatur Memorial
Hospital and St . Mary' s Hospital. Culligan can provide weekly
delivery to only two seperate locations .
The City specifications asked for a maximum delivery of 1500
gallons at each of the City locations . Culligan - will deliver
only trailerload lots or 5040 gallons of water at a time.
Knowing these facts , City staff should be able to make weekly
water delivery to the two hospitals as well as find adequate
storage for the additional gallons of water.
The composition of water provided by the low bidder meets all
Federal and State regulations and requirements .
It is staff recommendation to accept the low bid of Culligan to
furnish approximately 30 , 000 gallons of bottled water at no
charge from the present until April 30 , 1993 .
cc: Beth Couter
